I've heard people in the know say about vintage typewriters, "If it doesn't look anything like what you think a typewriter should look like, then it's valuable." I'd scoop it if I were you.
You should buy it! Olivers are my favorite typers. Besides even if it doesn't work and is kind of beat up, you can always trade an Oliver for something else, and if you don't buy it you'll likely regret it since Oliver 5's don't pop up for $15 very often!
I guess I'm gonna get it then:) I am assuming this guy doesn't check his email often. It was listed on craigslist on Tuesday and I emailed him a second time this morning...still no response.
He should be local, so its just a matter of talking to him on the phone, getting over there and handing over $15.

I finally got a response yesterday about the Oliver #5 on craigslist...it has already been sold. So, I lucked out.
