Totally jealous! Very good purchase; a LOT of "bang for the buck". I just love Selectrics. Olde English and Delegate are my favorites in this font group.
I envy your IBM and elements. I did not know IBM supplied the Old English; it's great. I'd like a Selectric for the exact reason of having all the (or getting) font elements. I would be restricted to a Selectric-I due to space, but I really like the Selectric-III, just no place for it in a tiny house.
Oh, these are just beautiful! That is a pretty sweet way to get a fraktur typeface without going to all the trouble of getting a typewriter from Germany. I like your suggestion of having just a Selectric with a whole bunch of type elements... but I think I would miss the thwack of typebars... :)
A Selectric is certainly a delightful experience. Having had a II and a III with a bunch of elements, I think I eventually only gave them up because of the size, weight and the wall plug. If I want fonts and a wall plug, I have a computer, I guess.
Okay, now you know I've recently (sorta) decided to type the entire KJV on a typewriter. If only my Selectric was in better shape (and I had enough coin to woo that Olde English element away from you - I'm betting it would take a lot...).
Yup, I've read about your project. You know, when I purchased the lot, there were two more sets of these 10 elements available. The seller listed them as $49 with free shipping and he bottom price was $42 as Best Offer, so there are some more available.
But, seeing I don't use my Selectric nearly as much as my manuals AND when I do use my Selectric, I'd likely use something other than Olde English (even though its such a cool font to look at), you could certainly borrow my type element.
I'm a long-term kind of thinker, so a couple years or so is just a drop in the bucket, especially if I'm helping you complete your project...
First would need to get my Selectric up and running. Right now (*looking around, over my shoulder, making sure no one else is listening*) it's in the shed.

ReplyDeleteVery nice! And it's true; nothin' easier than switchin' out an element for a little changaroo.
ReplyDeleteGreat catch! The print & publisher is my favorite. I would love to a have a Selectric if I just had the space to store it...
