  1. Okay, you've got me really curious about the Selectrics now.

  2. One of the coolest things about a Selectric (any model) is the golfball. I've seen them on eBay and Craigslist from $15 a piece (at the high end) down to a lot of 5-10 of them for $30.

Its a big typewriter and electric (which can sometimes play tricks with your manual loving side of the brain), but if you get one, you can really play with changing out fonts. Which is a heck of a lot of fun. And since those golfballs are small and cheap, you can get the same thrill of collecting a new typer without sacrificing the cost and space...

  3. I managed to snag a lot of sixteen "golfballs" on the 'Bay for twenty bucks a few years ago. Without a doubt "script" is my favorite, but the ability to switch instantly to a new typeface but still be on a typewriter is a nice compromise.

  4. I still look occasionally, but so far, haven't come across anything when I searched.

I almost got a box of six golfballs for the price of shipping, but someone picked them up locally before the Craigslist poster got my e-mail.
