  1. I didn't know Shawshank first existed as a short story until about two years ago. (Reading it and some other shorts by Stephen King taught me that his shorts are generally better than his novels). Both the story and the movie are fantastic.

  2. I've known about the short story for many years (although was also surprised when I first found out). I actually have read the short story while watching the movie. I was amazed at how similar the movie was to the story, minus the fact that Red was a white dude in the story (which made the comment by Freeman about being Irish, that much more of a joke).

    I agree, many of King's short stories are just fantastic...
