  1. I am trying to visualize how you have things set up and can't! How about a pic, Deek? ;-)

  2. I, sadly, can attest to the making sure the child locks are disengaged. I have locked my sister and mother in the back of my car last time we went to a wedding...it was funny, well, to me at least! ;u)

I don't take my typers to work anymore because of very nosy and annoying coworkers. At least the nicer weather is coming so I can sit outside and type...

  3. Hmm...a picture? Its not too hard to visualize. Its a four-door sedan and I was just sitting in the backseat on the passenger side with the typewriter on my lap. Passats have a ton of leg room!

Yeah, I haven't taken the typewriter "in" the office. I just leave it in the car and go out there for lunch.

But, yeah, I wasn't laughing until I got out. When those child locks are engaged, there is no way to open the door from the inside, so I had to climb up to the front seats to get out. Not something my large-framed 35 year old body is used to doing!

I told my wife at dinner and she had tears running down her cheeks from laughing so hard...

  4. Nice turn of phrase, WordRebel, not taking typers to work because of nosy and annoying coworkers. It's not the machine that's the problem, it's the people popping in and peeking over to see what that weird noise is...

My coworkers already know I'm weird this way, so they just think it's quaint when I bring in one of the Remingtons. How else can I fill out those triplicate requisition forms? I suppose I could use the IBM Wheelwriter in the copy room... but it's an electric. Eww, gross!

  5. I did it during NaNo. Haven't had any success since, so I catch up on reading instead.

  6. great idea! I don't drive to work, but I've been sniffing around for a neat portable to take with me on occasion... Give all those people on the bus (with their smartphones and ding dong ringtones and silly mobile conversations, "I'm on the bus...") something *fantastic* to gawk at. ("No, I swear, he's using a real typewriter!...)

  7. Typing in the back seat of a VW bus is fun but it does attract curious onlookers. I mean, everyone suspects something suspicious when a person is just hanging out in a bus...

  8. Bizarre. There's a scene in my first NaNoWriMo novel involving a man seen typewriting in the backseat of a parked car. And this was in 2003-ish - way before my first typewriter purchase.
