    I have a tendency, in really short fiction, to try and give the reader a surprise. Not sure if that's good or bad, too gimmicky, but I've seen the trend and I've decided not to fight it and just let it go.

  4. That's a great story. I can picture the narrator jumping and/or ducking whenever a person or toy makes a mooing sound.

  5. If I had a "real" cow story, I would have written it, but I think the only cows I've seen, in person, are at our local children's zoo (there's a farm area).

    But I see that notagain kept the fiction cowbell ringing!

  6. It is true that some people say twist endings are gimmicky, but there are plenty of people still writing them, and people that enjoy reading them. If that's what you want in your story, I wouldn't fight it.
